Carol Ann's Biography

Carol Ann Rice Rafferty makes her home in Old Mandarin section of Jacksonville, Florida. Born 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her passion is creating tranquil environments, sewing, cooking, and gardening as an outlet for her artistic energy. As a young girl, she enjoyed spending hours listening intently to her mother and grandmothers as they shared childhood memories, cooked favorite family recipes together, and learned to embroider and construct garments. Her mother's career in fashion strongly influenced Carol sewing and knitting her entire wardrobe during her high school years.

After earning her Bachelors Degree in Design from Buffalo State College, Carol worked as an Adjunct Instructor teaching in the Fiber Program building the program, assisting with workshops and introducing new techniques. Experimentation to repurpose materials is her passion. Combining her love of art, history and sewing her work is on the bridge between fine art and craft. Creating beauty from ashes, designing functional, aesthetically pleasing environments is imperative to her. Making her own paper, dyeing fabrics and creating her own patterns makes her art an extension of herself. Each piece is custom made, available for sale or commission work.
